OrcaSlicer 2.5 textures
OrcaSlicer 2.5.0 (Alpha, Oct 2026) added real mesh textures and improved fuzzy skin. This page only lists features and numbers that appear in Orca's own release notes and wiki — nothing invented.
What is actually new in 2.5
- Texture Displacement (new): paint an area, pick a built-in height map (40+) or import PNG/JPG/BMP, set Depth and Tile size in millimetres, then Bake. The relief becomes real geometry that slices and exports like any other mesh. Unlike fuzzy skin, nothing changes until you bake (one undo step).
- Up to 8 texture layers with blending: Add, Override, Subtract, Multiply, Divide.
- Mapping modes: triplanar, cylindrical, spherical, from view, Unwrap (UV editor), and Model UV.
- Colour from textures: turn on Colors to map image colours to loaded filaments; Mix filaments can add blended slots (default Mixed colors cap: 8).
- Texture packs install as plugins from Orca Cloud; Adjust image offers Brightness, Contrast, Sharpness, Blur, Hue.
- Fuzzy Skin (improved, not brand-new): still a slicing-time wall jitter. In 2.5, fuzzy skin is not applied to unsupported bridging walls (they print smooth so they do not sag).

Fuzzy Skin vs Texture Displacement
- Fuzzy Skin — random toolpath offsets (or extrusion modulation). Fast to try; changes dimensions; good for matte grip and hiding layer lines.
- Texture Displacement — baked mesh relief (knurl, brick, wood grain, custom height maps). Previewable geometry; better for intentional patterns and multi-colour texture prints.
Fuzzy Skin starting values (sourced)
Official wiki documents modes and parameters; the community Orca wiki lists concrete starting pairs:
- Standard: thickness 0.3 mm, point distance 0.8 mm
- Subtle: thickness 0.1–0.2 mm, point distance 0.5–1.0 mm
- Aggressive grip: thickness 0.5–0.8 mm, point distance 0.4–0.6 mm
- Hide layer lines: thickness 0.2–0.3 mm, point distance 0.6–0.8 mm
- Artistic: thickness 0.5–1.0 mm, point distance 0.3–0.5 mm
Keep thickness at or near outer-wall line width. Modes: Contour, Hole, Contour and Hole, Painted Only, All Walls. Generator modes: Displacement (classic path shift), Extrusion (varies flow; needs Arachne; pattern ~half as strong), Combined. Noise types include Classic, Perlin, Billow, Ridged Multifractal, Voronoi, Ripple.

Practical tips from community guides
- PLA: start around 0.2–0.3 mm distance/thickness-class settings; dry filament to cut stringing.
- PETG / TPU: keep distance under ~0.2 mm and slow the skin layers.
- Do not use heavy fuzzy skin on parts that need tight tolerances.
